Rava Upma
To be frank, one of my ever favourite is ‘Rava upma’! It never bored me. I was brought up eating rava upma a zillion times. Be it for breakfast, if mom makes,
I will be the most happy to eat it. Now I can remember those days in which she prepared upma. I used to miss it a lot when I went to
hostel and missing it very badly now. So after reaching home, the very first day I'll suggest rava upma for breakfast.
I wanted to post this basic recipe in 'Bachelor Recipe' so that all readers can enjoy the taste of upma.
Ingredients:
Rava/ semolina 1 cup
Water 2 & 1/4 cup
Onion (Big) 1
Green chillies 4-5
Curry leaves 1 sprig
Coconut Oil 2 tsp
Ginger 1 inch piece
Salt 1 tsp(Upto your taste)
To temper
Oil 1 tblsp
Mustard 3/4 tsp
Urad dal 1 tsp
Channa dal 1 tblsp
Curry leaves 1 sprig
Method of Preparation
Sift rava through a muslin / cheese cloth or very fine sieve.
Fry rava ,on a moderate heat, stiring constantly to light brown color and set aside.
Now heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and allow them to splatter.
Add the channa dal & urad & curry leaves to it and fry till they turn red.
Add onion, ginger and green chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
Add water and salt, bring it to boil. Check for salt. Add the roasted rava in a srinkled way as well as stirring side by side.
Will splutter a lot so be careful with it. Mix well, it will soon become thick absorbing water.
After 5-6 minutes the upma should be done.
Take off from the heat and serve.
